A sensational victory for Liverpool was marked by forward Dirk Kuyt scoring his first ever hat-trick as the Reds thumped down bitter-rivals Manchester United 3-1 in a deserved win at Anfield. Due credit must go to Kuyt for his three goals, but the real hero of the show was Liverpool’s January signing Luis Suarez whose nippy, attractive play saw Kuyt scoring 2 of his 3 hat-trick goals. The birthday boy Kenny Dalglish’s big birthday gift as he couldn’t have asked for anything more on his 60th birthday
Anfield bathed in sunlight, Liverpool got the opener when the United defense where left looking like a bunch of amateur footballers as Suarez went pass a pretty ordinary United defense to set up Kuyt for his first. Suarez dribbled past two defenders, moved swiftly around Michael Carrick, muscled through Wes Brown, rolled the ball past Edwin van der Sar and Patrice Evra towards goal. The ever-present Kuyt was on hand to knock it home from inches away.
Liverpool scored their second of the game when Nani’s mistimed header headed back across the United’s goal to the waiting Kuyt. He made it two goals with an easy header past Van der Sar and Anfield erupted for the second time. This was where I felt the game was over and frankly I never saw Liverpool losing from this point.
The final nail in the coffin on United’s miserable and pathetic display was put when Kuyt scored his third 5 minutes into the second half pouncing on the loose ball as Van dar Sar failed to hold onto Suarez’s free kick. This was the icing on the cake as Kuyt completing his first hat-trick for Liverpool.
Liverpool was far better tactically and played with a lot of energy and space through out the match. United apart from one goal in the stoppage time had nothing else to show for as Liverpool policed the midfield superbly.
Overall Liverpool had an awesome game in all departments. After a horrible start to the season, things are getting back on track under Kenny and even though games against United never define Liverpool’s season, this one was a very special win for all the fans and for the birthday boy Kenny Dalglish. Liverpool clearly outclassed United and frankly murdered them 3-1 at Anfield.
That’s all from me on this one, until next time from me Prathamesh goodbye.
